FAQs
I’ve never been to therapy before. What can I expect?
I believe that you should always be the one in charge of your treatment. I am here to support you and be your cheerleader, so to speak, but I go at your pace and allow you to decide what you want to work on in session. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs.
How long are sessions and how long will I be in therapy?
You can expect sessions to last anywhere from approximately 45 to 55 minutes.
Therapy lasts as long as you need it to. Some individuals go to therapy for as little as 10 weeks, others are in her therapy for years. You get to decide what treatment looks like and we work together to create and most emotionally healthy and safe plan for you.
What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?
A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.”
Do you prescribe medication?
No, I cannot prescribe medication. I am a therapist, and only a physician can prescribe medication. Someone like your primary care physician or a psychiatrist would be able to prescribe medication, because they are doctors with the appropriate medical training and knowledge about pharmacology that is out of my scope of practice. I am more than happy to provide education about meeting with a psychiatrist during our sessions.
I am interested in therapy for my minor child. Am I allowed to join therapy sessions with my child?
I encourage open and honest communication among families and with children and their parents, however I do respect my clients rights to confidentiality. The clients I serve, regardless of their age get to decide what their treatment looks like and who is included in sessions. Of course, should I ever have concerns about your child’s safety, you will be immediately informed of such information.
