    My Values

    I believe that we are affected by a multitude of experiences – ranging from our interpersonal relationships, our community, as well by larger societal institutions and oppressive systems.  As a therapist, I work from an anti-racist perspective.  I strive to create a warm, emotionally safe environment, free of judgement and bias, while providing culturally affirming, gender affirming care.

    About Our Team

    We have a small team, comprised of two individuals – Monica and Amanda. Monica is the owner and currently the only therapist in the practice, and Amanda is our diligent administrative assistant.

    The Meaning Behind Our Name

    Mariposa, in Spanish, means “butterfly.”  I believe that our lives are shaped by constant change, much like the lives of butterflies.  We under go metamorphoses time and time again. I am here to provide support during these times of change.  

    Additionally, I come from a family of immigrants and I am a provider of immigration evaluations.  I believe that the monarch, that travels through various countries as a means to survive, is a beautiful representation of many immigrants’ journey.

    Life is forever changing.  Managing these changes can be challenging. I often tell the clients I serve, “I wish I could stop the difficult things in life from happening, but I can’t.” What I can do, however is help to support you in managing and navigating the difficulties that life brings.  Everyone has battles to fight and hurdles to overcome at some point. Whether you struggle with anxiety, depression, difficulties in establishing healthy boundaries in your relationships, or any other issue, there is support here, to support you in managing challenging feelings and circumstances in a healthy way.

    No matter what the reason – taking the step to start therapy is powerful and important, because it means you’re taking the time to take care of the most important person in your life – you!
