Counseling for Trauma
Most people will experience trauma in their lifetime whether it’s a car accident, abuse, neglect, the sudden death of a loved one, a violent criminal act, exposure to the violence of war, or a natural disaster.
Some individuals can recover from trauma over time with consistent love and support of family and friends while others may experience effects of lasting trauma, which may require support from a professional. Effects of trauma can cause a person to live with deep emotional pain, fear, and shame, among many other difficult emotions.
Shame and feelings of guilt and self-blame may make you believe that what happened to you was your fault, but it wasn’t! These feelings may stifle us and may stop us from seeking the help and support we need, however, it is in these circumstances, the support, guidance, and assistance of a therapist is fundamental to healing from trauma.

Research has proven psychotherapy to be the most effective form of treatment for trauma. Most commonly, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) are used in treating trauma.
I have years of experience treating trauma and have worked at domestic violence and youth shelters, with survivors of abuse and sexual assault, with individuals who have experienced racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, discrimination, emotional neglect, family trauma, and grief. I offer Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and incoporate other treatment modalities, such as the Community Resiliency Model (CRM) when treating trauma.
If you or someone you know matches the trauma symptoms listed above, I am confident that I can help and invite you to contact me today for a free consultation.
